Q: I'm a Team Women member. Can I change my Team Women password to something I can remember?
A: There are a lot of great resources available in the Members Only section of the Team Women website, including all of the required and optional chapter forms, recorded Team Women University calls, recorded All-Member calls, recorded President calls, and more!
To change your password to something you can remember, simply log in and click on "edit profile." You can change your password, add a bio and photo, and update any of your contact information.
Q: Why do I have to pay meeting fees on top of my membership fee?
A: Annual dues of $249 go to Team Women's headquarters and are for the following:
- Exclusive representation of your core profession in your Team Women Chapter.
- The ability to visit any other chapters which have an opening for your core profession.
- Individual photo/bio/website link on the Team Women International site.
- Policy and procedures and guidelines in place to create and grow strong chapters with good attendance from members
- Logo pens, referral slips, applications and Team Women brochures and flyers for marketing your chapter and recruiting new members
- Administrative support for running Team Women (marketing supplies maintenance and shipping, membership tracking, etc.)
- Complete Team Women Membership Kit
Meeting Fees are paid at every meeting. The Meeting Fee is $5 per member (guests and visiting members are exempt) and is paid to the chapter Treasurer. Checks are permitted for meeting fees only if your chapter has established a checking account. Chapters may offer the option of members paying on a monthly, quarterly, or annual basis.
The Chapter Meeting Fee is NOT a “meal fee.” The Chapter Meeting Fee goes into the chapter treasury and is used to cover the cost of basic supplies such as paper, photocopying, faxes, stamps, envelopes, scrapbook supplies, cash box, ledger book, etc. The remaining funds may be utilized at the team’s discretion for business mixers, chapter advertising or other events to build chapter membership. Member meeting fees are not to be used for charitable donations or non chapter building events.
All members are responsible for the biweekly meeting fee. If you miss a meeting, you must pay for the missed meeting at your next meeting. The Meeting Fee should be considered an important part of your overall commitment to your TWI chapter.
Members only pay at their home meetings and do not pay a meeting fee if visiting another TWI Chapter.
Guests at a TWI Chapter meeting are never asked to pay a meeting fee. Guests are allowed to attend up to 2 meetings at no cost and then must join TWI in order to continue attending.
All fees are non-refundable and subject to change.
Q: What is the difference between an excused and an unexcused absence and why does Team Women keep track?
A: Excused absences are when the chapter President has been notified in advance by telephone or email and are limited to:
Personal or Family Illness Out of Town Vacation Out of Town Business Travel Jury Duty
Failure to contact your chapter President prior to the meeting with one of the above reasons for missing it will result in an unexcused absence. Your chapter President will send attendance warning letter number one. In the event of a second unexcused absence, TWI will send a 2nd letter stating any future unexcused absences may result in the termination of your TWI membership. In the event of a third unexcused absence, TWI may issue a Membership Termination letter (all fees are non-refundable).
Attendance is so important to Team Women because it allows the women in the group to form relationships. Attendance at the meetings shows committment and lets chapter members know they can count on you. It is important for you to fulfill your responsibility to the chapter to provide qualified business leads to the other members and being present at the meetings allows you to learn more about the other businesses represented in the group and how you can best support them.
Additionally, due to the every other week schedule, if you miss just one meeting, you won't see the other members of your chapter for a month!

Set Your Priorities, Team Women!
As business owners it is very important we are clear on our priorities and to ensure they are in alignment with our goals. If our goal is to increase our revenue by 20% each month and we also make it a priority to take an additional day off each week, our goals and priorities could be in conflict with each other. Our priorities need to be created around our goals and what we want and what we are willing to do to complete them.
With how quickly Team Women has been growing (which is fabulous) I realized it was important to be clear about my priorities for Team Women. To determine my priorities, I had to look at my personal reason for running Team Women and determine my ultimate goal. To achieve the success I envision with Team Women, it is important my priorities are in line and my goals are established around those priorities.
I became involved with Team Women because as a new business owner I had to find a way to share my products and services with others to grow my business. Everyone whose opinion I asked said networking was the way to do that. So I started networking and being very Type A started visiting every group I could find. My core business at that time was as a wine consultant doing in-home wine tastings so needless to say, everywhere I went to visit I was very well received and people were excited to meet me. Nothing felt exactly like the right fit so I searched further and found Team Women.
I opened Team Women Carlsbad on May 5, 2005. As of that date I had never seen a wine tasting, gone to a wine tasting and I was still drinking that famous two buck wine. At my very first meeting, one person showed up who joined Team Women, agreed to be the Chapter Treasurer and purchased my very first wine tasting. I did that wine tasting in June of 2005 and by December I was the Number One consultant in the country in number of wine tastings held and wine club enrollments. This was accomplished in six months and was all due to Team Women and the wonderful referrals I received.
My reason for joining Team Women was to grow my business and I am sure that is the number one reason members are joining every day. My mission with Team Women is to ensure we do everything we can to support them in achieving their goal. From that mission, I have created the top three priorities for Team Women and am excited to share them with you.
1. Customer Satisfaction: From your first experience with Team Women I want you to be treated professionally, to be supported and assisted in all ways and to know Team Women exists to help you in achieving the business you desire.
2. Member Retention: Successful networking relationships are built over time. Networking is a process and not an event. Women are wonderful at supporting other women once we know them and trust the professionalism with which they deliver their product or service. This is not achieved in just a couple of meetings or often not even a couple of months. Building a meaningful relationship takes time, patience and commitment.
3. Growth of Team Women: I have a personal goal of having a chapter in every state in America this year and I have shared that with many of you. I am exited about international chapters and about being the largest and the best Women Only Business Networking group in the world. However, based on my mission, this comes up as number three on the priority list following providing you with excellent service and giving you a reason to remain a Team Women member for your entire career.
Please let us know how we are doing and set three priorities for your business for the next five months and see what happens.
"Sometimes you have to create the thing you want to be part of." (Howard Schultz, Chairman, Starbucks Corporation)

This month we have something a little different for our Member in the Spotlight. We received this email from Stephanie West of Team Women East County:
"Kerri Shulman , our chapter president, has been doing a fantastic job leading our group. This week she presented a gift to us and an offer that supports other women. Besides being terrific (her and the offer!) Kerri supports women. How do we nominate her for Member of the Month?"
We got back to Stephanie and said, "Consider that her nomination! Please send us more info about Kerri." On behalf of the chapter, here is what she submitted:
"As our chapter president she keeps us on schedule and well rounded. When she gave us gifts last week as a way to share what she offers, she let us know that any proceeds go to a charitable foundation for women, it was just another facet of the many ways she supports women. She's a new mommy too, running on a new frequency gracefully. We're so happy she will be considered for August spot light."
Congratulations, Kerri. You are clearly embodying what Team Women is all about and we join your chapter in applauding you. So, without further ado, here is this month's spotlight article...
Kerri Shulman is originally from Hartford CT, but grew up in Dallas, TX. She and her husband Jonathan both graduated from Tufts University in Medford MA and have lived all over the world. They moved to San Diego 5 years ago and plan to stay for a while. Jonathan is the chair of the History Dept at La Jolla Country Day School and Kerri has been with Mary Kay for almost 4 years. Their most wonderful accomplishment however, is the recent birth of their beautiful daughter Delilah Jacklyn, born this past December. She is the absolute light of Kerri's life and one of the best inspirations she has to work hard at her Mary Kay business. Speaking of her business, Kerri will tell you that she was the least likely candidate to start a Mary Kay business. After almost a year of resisting and saying no, she finally decided to give it a try. She caught on quickly and became a Sales Director eight months later. Within 2 years, she had earned the use of three free career cars, not the least of which is the awesome Pink Cadillac. Her unit is currently in qualification for their second Pink Cadillac. Delilah came home from the hospital in a pink car and Kerri intends for her to ride in one her whole life. She loves Mary Kay not only for the quality of the products but also for the company’s mission, enriching women’s lives. It is about helping women to be everything they can be, and providing them with a means to put their priorities in the right order; allowing women to put faith and family before career and still be successful and fulfilled in every way. As a Sales Director she gets to change women’s lives, help them reach goals and find personal and professional fulfillment every day. It is incredibly rewarding for Kerri.
Kerri has been a Team Women East County member for a few years and of all of the different resources she has tried for networking and growing her business, Kerri has found that Team Women is, far and away, the best. She loves TW because along with the guidance of Judi and the corporate structure, each chapter has some flexibility to run things in a way that works for them and for the climate and culture of the women around the table. When asked about her experiences with Team Women, Kerri said, "I can’t say enough about how it has directly helped me. Through team women members and referrals, I have met faithful clients as well as well as several women who have joined my Mary Kay team. They are also my council for advice and mentoring, and women I consider to be close friends. I really look forward to every meeting and that is not something most people can say about most meetings!"

Don’t be a Duh Marketer!
Team Women University is one of the enhanced benefits offered each month to our members. We invite a nationally known expert in a particular field to do a tele-confernce for members on a topic which can help them enhance their business practices.
This past week we had Liz Goodgold (www.duhmarketing.com) talk about marketing and tips on what to do and not do to create the image you want. The call was full of useful suggestions and I have had great feedback from the members who were on the call. If you were not able to attend, please go to the Members Only section of the Team Women website and listen to the telecall recording.
One tip I would like to share with you here is on your “elevator speech.” Liz suggested that when asked about your business outside of a networking group, you have a seven second commercial instead of a 30 second commercial. Her reason is with everyone being so overloaded with information these days and the propensity of more and more people claiming to have ADD, they won’t listen for 30 seconds and you need to capture their interest in the first 7 seconds. If they are interested, they will want to know more and you can provide more details. If you stop after 7 seconds and they are not interested, you can avoid watching their eyes glaze over as you ramble on! Then you can move on to the next potential customer.
I asked Liz what she thought of the the seven second commercial I have been using when someone asks me what Team Women is:
What is Team Women?
“It is a cool chick group that rocks!”
Everyone got a good laugh and Liz gave me a “A.” The high rating was due to the rarity of hearing the words cool, chick and rock in a description of a business network, let alone all in one sentence?
What is your seven second description of your business? If you are standing in line in the market and you have the opportunity to share what you do, how succinct can you be? Remember one of the purposes is to prequalify the person you are speaking with quickly, so you don’t have to waste time on someone who is not interested in what you have to offer and can mentally say “next.”
And thanks so much for being a part of “a cool chick group that rocks!”
"Do your work with your whole heart and you will succeed - there's so little competition." (Elbert Hubbard)
