Q: Why do we collect $5 per member at each meeting?
A: The Chapter Meeting Fee going into the chapter treasury is to cover the cost of basic supplies such as paper, photocopying, faxes, stamps, envelopes, scrapbook supplies, cash box, ledger book, etc. The remaining funds may be utilized at the team's discretion for business mixers, chapter advertising or other events to build chapter membership. Member meeting fees are not to be used for charitable donations or non chapter building events.
One investment that has worked particularly well for Linda Sweeny and the North County Inland ( San Diego, CA) chapter has been booths at local Chamber business expos and street fairs. These have proven to be a great source of leads while providing community exposure for the chapter. Business expos attract interest from business owners in attendance at booths. Street fairs also provide the opportunity to promote chapter member products or services. At both types of events collecting business cards and/or contact information for a drawing allows you to follow up with interested women and invite them to future meetings.
A chapter may also opt to join a local chamber of commerce for additional networking and business resources.
Many groups spend chapter funds to hold socials or mixers. Some prospective members are more likely attend a social event than a meeting as a first exposure to the chapter. This is also a good place to invite your contacts who might be interested in doing business with other chapter members (an in-person referral!)
Some chapters have done local advertising and found this to be another good way to attract interest.
The bottom line is this - Chapter funds should not be sitting in your account for very long. The money should be reinvested in things which will grow your chapter!

Need some new ideas for chapter members? Want to make sure you're classified correctly within your core profession?

April Showers,Team Women!
“April showers bring May flowers” is something we have all heard at one time or another. To me it has always meant that the rain is a necessary precursor to the beautiful, bright flowers of springtime. If you are wondering where the rhyme originated, it can be traced back to the mid 1500s, although earlier use of “April showers bring May flowers” may have existed.
In 1557, a gentleman by the name of Thomas Tusser compiled a collection of writings he called A Hundred Good Points of Husbandry. In the April, Husbandry section he wrote:
Sweet April showers Do spring May flowers
In our business April showers bring May flowers can take on a whole different meaning and I am going to compare it to filling the marketing funnel to keep generating new business. For our businesses to continue to thrive and bloom, we always need to be watering them with new leads and prospects. We also need to stay in touch with them to remain “top of mind”...and I don’t mean only when we want to sell them something.
In this exciting season what are you doing new to cause your business to bloom? Is it time to pull up some weeds and plant new seeds? One way to plant new seeds is to set an intention to invite a new guest to each of your Team Women meetings. Each new member who joins knows a minimum of 250-500 people who may be interested in your product or service. That is a lot of new seeds!
Grow your business this spring by growing your Team Women Chapter. When you support the members of your Team in achieving their goals, amazing things happen with your own.
Let it pour!

Susy Williams came to Team Women as a member in September 2008. She is the Founding President of the first team in all of Texas, Team Women San Antonio. In her chapter, Susy promotes her skin care business, Arbonne International. As a Skin Care Consultant, Susy provides a variety of pure, safe and beneficial products to individuals who want to achieve a healthier complexion.
Susy is also the San Antonio Area Manager. She was chosen as the first Area Manager in Team Women history. When asked by Judi Finneran in November 2008 what she thought of becoming the Area Manager for San Antonio and the first for Team Women, Susy was very excited about the opportunity. Susy said, “Team Women has helped me find a whole new me and meet a wonderful group of women.” San Antonio’s chapter launch was in October of 2008 and by the end of the month, Susy had signed up 11 new members, making Team Women San Antonio the first team to win a sponsored Happy Hour with Judi.
“I have learned many wonderful skills being the Team Women San Antonio President and Area Manager, it has made me a more professional person. I truly with all my heart believe in the mission of Team Women, which is women supporting women in growing their businesses.” Susy wishes to thank her friend, Kerrie Kosmitis of Team Women Seminole County, FL for telling her about Team Women! Also big thanks to the amazing group of ladies who make up her San Antonio chapter and the Schertz/Cibolo chapter – We Are A Cool Chick Group that Rocks!!!

Join us on Tuesday, April 28th at 10am Pacific for a fabulous Team Women University call.
In last month's call with Colleen Crook, we learned how you can live and lead your life consciously with passion, purpose and prosperity - easily and with simplicity. Members can listen to the recording by accessing it through the Members Only area of the Team Women website.
Colleen is a Life & Leadership Coach and founder of Conscious Living Connection. For over 20 years she has worked with hundreds of individuals and groups to help them uncover what matters most in creating a life that expresses their true passionate selves.
On the call, Colleen coached us in creating our energetic calling card using her 5 step process. If you have a dream about which you are passionate and you are willing to take action to attract all that you need, Colleen will show you how to create magic and make your passion happen. Her services offers something for everyone, including the popular complimentary “Create What Matters Most” Gift Bundle available on her website.

"Hi Everyone! - I found some incredible flowers that are one of my most favorite bouquets (day lilies) today sent from a very special group of women---to me! You have no idea what a pick-me-up that was--I was really feeling blue, and tired of feeling yucky and the flowers really help. I'm starting to get better and will be there the next meeting to thank you all in person. Thank you very much, it was a wonderful surprise, and I love you all."
- Victoria Behrends, Team Women Solana Beach

A Different Kind of Courage By Judy Pearson, Founding President, Team Women Kalamazoo, MI
Courage and its meaning intrigue me. What causes people to react courageously in one circumstance and not in another? Can courage be learned? Can anyone be courageous? And how can we feel courageous in our careers when some days we don’t even know if, in our fast-paced world, we’ll still have that career tomorrow?
In the fall of 2007, I was invited to the Courage Summit at the Gallup Institute in Washington D.C. Attended by psychologists, sociologists and PhD’s, the conference taught me my interest in courage is nothing new.
Cynthia Pury, a professor at Clemson University, spoke to us about “The Ugly Duckling,” asking if courage was more than standing up to mistreatment. Her research has led her to conclude that the label “courage” should be applied to situations in which the losses are greater than the gains. In other words, the greater the sacrifice, the more substantial the courage.
Shane Lopez from the University of Kansas shared that even the NFL is studying courage. They’re using their research to determine the best draft picks, and not just to learn which man is a better athlete. The teams want to know who is more likely to want the ball and perform in the clutch.
A big eye-opener came from Dora Gudrun, a psychologist from Iceland, who explained that the Icelandic language differentiates between positive and negative courage. Fifldirfska refers to an act of courage done for evil reasons, such as was exhibited by the groups that overtook the planes on 9/11. Those flying the planes into buildings were exercising this negative courage, evidenced by the horrific results.
And just as men and women differ in every other facet of our beings, we handle our courage differently as well. In fact, research done at UCLA promotes the theory that women don’t behave according to the fight or flight theory we all learned in Psychology 101. Rather, we tend and befriend. We make sure our offspring, elderly and others in our care are safe, and then we seek the advice and strength of other women. The bottom line is that we women have courage; it’s just a different kind of courage.
So how does all this translate into our careers? Writer Eudora Welty said, “A daring life begins within.” I interpret that as not to put pressure on myself to be more courageous, but rather to feel more courageous. Remember the adage, practice makes perfect? If we practice feeling courageous, I believe when we need to act courageously, it will come much more easily and naturally. Sort of like typing or riding a bike.
Think of the things that you might soon face in your career. Maybe you need to ask for a raise or let an employee go. Maybe there’s an important sales presentation or an accountability meeting with the board of directors. Or maybe, most dramatic of all, you’ll be terminated. Any one of these will require courage. But if you begin the habit of feeling courageous now, you’ll have a head start on the tough events down the road. And my Courage Roadmap is a great place to begin.
First, take stock of your pluses – your blessings, your attributes, your abilities. Know what you’ve got before you try to use it. It’s like checking your pantry for ingredients before you start cooking.
Secondly, visualize what will happen when you act courageously. Visualizing is a very powerful mind tool. It doesn’t require equipment, other people, or any money. Seeing yourself already achieving a goal makes your brain believe that attaining that goal is possible.
Third, make a mental list of who will be helped by your courage and who could be hurt if you don’t act. Use visualization here too. Your engine will get a jump-start when you put faces and names in the scenario.
Fourth, if it’s all too overwhelming, don’t quit. Just step back and regroup. You might even need reinforcements and that’s okay.
Fifth, celebrate your courage! Let the feeling of achievement wash over you. No matter how large or small your actions were, it took guts to pull it off. We women are so good at congratulating others, and too hard on ourselves. Don’t do that!
And finally, practice. Courage is like a muscle. It needs exercise for strength so that when we need it, it’s ready for action. And small amounts of fear and stress can give it that kind of practice. Use them to your advantage. Courage isn’t the absence of fear, it’s the presence of fear. Helen Keller said, “We could never learn to be brave and patient if there were only joy in the world.”
Remember, you are a woman of courage!
"Life shrinks or expands...in proportion to one's courage." - Anais Nin
